RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2007

BORDEAUX AND BURGUNDY:

Though some might disagree, I have long believed that the two most prestigious wine regions in the world are Bordeaux and Burgundy, as both arguably - particularly at the highest levels - represent the pinnacle of both breed and perfection --- want to know more about these regions? Let me know! In the meantime, I strongly suggest you try some of my recommendations. Enjoy!

RED WINES

(1) Château Beau-Site
      -St-Estèphe, Bordeaux, France
      -Vintage 2003 (HOLD)
      -L.C.B.O. PRICE: $39.95
      -8.5/10

COMMENT: Very tight at present (in other words, the nose is not showing much at the moment); not much fruit, but developing very nicely; this is quite a tannic wine that ought to reward at least eight years of cellar aging. The wines from this estate have long been known for good consistency and reasonable value.

PAIRING SUGGESTION: Prime rib with roast-herbed potatoes, along with a little hot mustard on the side --- enjoy!

(2) Maison J. Faiveley
      -Nuits-St-Georges, Burgundy, France
      -Vintage 2003 (DRINK NOW OR HOLD)
      -L.C.B.O. PRICE: $49.95
      -8.5/10

COMMENT: In terms of price and overall quality, this is an excellent-value Pinot Noir from one of the most respected houses in Burgundy. Shows light vanilla, red licorice, and dark berries; delicate mouthfeel, with an extended finish.

PAIRING SUGGESTION: Coq au Vin --- enjoy!

WHITE WINES

(1) Château Bonnet (Blanc)
      -Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux, France
      -Vintage 2005 (DRINK NOW)
      -L.C.B.O. PRICE: $12.95
      -8/10

COMMENT: Though hardly a complex wine, for its price, this is a great wine to enjoy on a summer afternoon. With a little zest and nice mineral notes, along some decent fruit, this wine is notably ideal for those who simply need something pleasant to sip.

PAIRING SUGGESTION: Barbequed sausages or lamb chops --- enjoy!

(2) Domaine Dujac
      -Morey-St-Denis, Burgundy, France
      -Vintage 2003 (DRINK NOW OR HOLD)
      -L.C.B.O. PRICE: $63.95
      -8.5/10

COMMENT: Lovely light-buttery scents; lean fruit and well-integrated wood. Fine mouthfeel, with a delightful creamy finish. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this is one of the most elegant white wines from Burgundy I have had in quite a while.

PAIRING SUGGESTION: Steamed mussels with a little garlic --- enjoy!
